Easy-Peasy Pear Tart

December 15, 2014
I have never made anything so pretty in my life! I have, also, never made anything with pears before.  So, when I ended up with a few pears in my house, I looked some recipes. All of them looked great but seemed like they needed a bit more time than I had available. Then, I stumbled onto this super easy recipe. I pinned it, of course, and was prepared to make it the next day.
The next day arrived, and somehow, with all of the fruit we had in the house (grapefruit, bananas, apples, oranges, clementines), someone had decided they were in a pear-y mood and swiped one of the pears I had hoped to use for this recipe. However, that did not deter me from making it anyway. 🙂 Read on to find out just how easy it was!

One of the reasons this was an easy recipe for me was because I already had a pie crust in the freezer! Never thought I would say that! Me? A pie crust? In my freezer? One that I made from scratch? Yes to all of those questions and it was awesome. The pie crust is to die for and the original recipe has sugar in the crust. But since I already had this Perfect Pie Crust from The Pioneer Woman, I decided to use it instead and save some time.  The only difference with this crust and the one the recipe calls for is sugar. I am not a huge sugar fan, so that suited me just fine. If you like sugar 🙂 then use the recipe attached here in this blog post. This recipe is from Little House Living’s website.
Pear Tart Recipe
Crust
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 T. sugar
  • 8 T. butter
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 T. cold water, or more if needed
Filling
  • 3 pears
  • 2 T. butter
  • 2 T. flour
  • 3/4 cup sugar
Enjoy!
Begin by making the crust and rolling it out to the size of the pan you are using. Press the dough as evenly as you can all along the bottom and up the sides of the pan.  Then, chill the dough in the freezer while you cut up the pears and prep the topping.
Peel, core and slice three pears lengthwise. I had only two, so I used two and it seemed fine. Although three pears would have been a bit more filling 😀 Place the rounder part of the pear towards the rim of the pan, slightly overlapping. So pretty, right?
Mix together some flour, sugar, and butter into a delicious topping. It will seem like a whole lot of sugar or maybe not. I used half the sugar as I don’t like super sweet things. Spread this mixture evenly across the pears.
Stick in the oven for  about 35 minutes at 400 degrees.  I did it in a 350-degree oven for 35 minutes. Don’t know why. Just kinda rebellious like that. But, it turned out beautifully, n’est-ce pas?
