Pohick Bay - Pedal Boating

I know that summer is in full swing here in Virginia. The sweltering heat begins quite early in the day. The humidity hangs like a thick, wet blanket making deep breaths a necessity, at times. Yet, I suddenly feel as light as air (well, not the current summer air), when I catch a glimpse of fall in these lovely, curled up leaves.  Daydreaming aside, today we explored Pohick Bay Park as our Family Home Evening activity, and ended up having quite a little adventure.

Frying Pan Farm Park

I know I should have checked the weather before I headed out to the Frying Pan Farm Park with my partner-in-crime. Don't let that melting face fool you - Gracie was in tractor heaven! I mean, it really doesn't get better than this - seeing your best friend, exploring a farm, and test driving tractors!

Monument Walk - WWII & Lincoln Memorial

It is impossible to live in the nation's capitol and not be surrounded by history and monuments. So, when you need an activity for Family Home Evening, what do you do? Head out to the city and visit a monument or two. This is exactly what we did this morning before the heat kicked in and the crowds descended. One of my favorite walking paths is the one that stretched between the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial. This tree-lined path is perfect for a summer morning walk.

Old Town Alexandria Farmer's Market

Whenever we get a chance to visit our old haunts inAlexandria, we jump at it! One of our favorite things to do on a Saturday is to go to the Old Town Alexandria's Farmers' Market, sample all the delicious, juicy fruit and veggies, grab some delectable goodies and scrumptious bread, some fresh flowers, and just wander around, relaxing together. With Gracie, there is little chance of relaxing at the Farmers' Market, but a whole lot of fun, nonetheless.
Here she is sampling some delicious peaches with her daddy, who also loves to sample pretty much every fruit they have on display. It being the 4th of July weekend, we are all dressed in our patriotic colors, and enjoying one of America's oldest traditions - farmers markets - in one of the oldest all-year round farmers' markets :)
