Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum
It is always fun when family comes to visit. Then, I get visit places I haven't seen yet :D This amazing place has been on my list for too long to remember - The Udvar-Hazy Air & Space Museum. It puts the other one on the National Mall to shame, in my opinion. This place was right next to the Dulles Airport and it was enormous! All museum lovers and aircraft lovers would wish to live here - okay, that may seem a bit extreme, but, it was really was quite impressive!
Here is the first glimpse from above of the world's fastest plane. Reminded me of a sting ray.
We strolled around the museum at leisure because it was nearly empty, and we had the place to ourselves. Three adults and four children and we somehow made it almost to the end with no meltdowns. Almost.
Some more pictures of that fastest plane - this time from the ground. Darth Vader, anyone?
It isn't everyday that Gracie gets to tour anything with cousins, so she was in heaven. And, it was cute to see them bond.
Gracie loved Jonas. He made her laugh, he played with her, he read to her. And, she soaked it all up. Jonas is a wonderful big brother!
The Three Musketeers. Gracie is like her dad - not entirely happy to stop exploring or running around to take a picture. Hahah. But, just look at these three cuties!
The guts of a plane. Cool!
Uncle Jacob explaining things to the kiddos.
Blurry and grainy but oh so full of joy!
Look! Mama, I'm an airplane!
And, finally - the highlight of the hangar - The Discovery Space Shuttle. I remember watching it being flown over to this building, and pulled over to the side of the George Washington Parkway along with hundreds of others ( a normal morning commute in these parts), to watch the shuttle circle over DC, before it was brought to rest in its permanent spot here.
I don't know why but this reminded me of a mail carrier. It would make my day if my mailman rolled up in one of these one day! Anyway, ahem, hope you enjoyed the sneak peek of this incredible museum and if you ever get the chance, you should definitely make it a priority!
