I had heard of this place from all my friends who lived in Alexandria. Apparently, it is a dream come true for toddlers to tumble, climb, fall, slide, bounce and generally, have a ball (no pun intended). My adventurous nature has expanded to now include playgrounds, parks, children's museums, and this infamous soft play room at the Chinquapin Recreational Center in Alexandria. On a fine fall morning, like we have been experiencing lately, my friend, Marcia and her cute bundle of joy - Aurora, met me at this place for an hour of fun.

The National Harbor Christmas Tree in all its shining splendor. Every year, there must be at least ten tree lighting ceremonies within a 15-mile radius of where we live. Every year, these events seem to be starting much earlier than the previous year. This year, the tree lighting at the National Harbor took place on the 14th of November. Yes, that's right - the 14th! Long before the turkeys eat their last meal; long before the Thanksgiving paraphernalia leaves the supermarket shelves; long before I wear my stretchable fleece pants to Thanksgiving dinner. (Before we go further, I'd just like you to know that I accidentally watermarked my photos with the logo of my other blog. These photos were all taken by me, moi, and no one else but me. Thank you :) )

When life gives you a pile of leaves, you jump in it, of course! This is exactly what happened the day our community landscaping company came by and blew all the leaves in the neighborhood into some humungous piles. Unable to resist the urge to jump in them, Aaron recruited Grace to be his partner-in-crime. I was cooking burgers in a grill pan for lunch and trying to clean the kitchen at the same time. By the time I could yell out a response that I may not be going on this jumping spree, the two of them were out of the house.

That is the face of an excited little girl who loves the outdoors and seizes every opportunity to get out of the house. Fortunately, we don't have to go further than our front door and we are immediately surrounded by gorgeous fall colors.

I stir in my bed, rustling the warm air trapped under my fleece blanket, suddenly feeling the chill in the other part of bed where I hadn't slept. I hear it again - a tinkling little laugh, a babble. My eyelids flutter, straining to fight against the weight of sleep. It is dark but the room is lit by a dull streetlamp, so it takes me a minute to adjust to the light. There it is - a sudden burst of laughter. As consciousness flows in slowly like a sea of molasses, I realize that Gracie is awake.
